PROLOGUE
World War Twenty-Seven has left behind very little of any civilization. Most people have turned to nomads. Industry has plummeted. Economics are in rapid decline. Buying a loaf of bread is equivalent to buying a bag of gold. Fleeing their own pasts, four individuals band together to build new lives for themselves. They have their own goals and personalities, likes and dislikes, but despite the odds, they are determined to work together to create a future for their own families, in the hopes their children will not have to suffer as they did. These four individuals came to this unnamed, new land after hitching a ride with a wandering caravan. They decided to stake their claim to some land by the water where the soil is good for growing. They are rather isolated. Their only ability to socialize comes from each other, the nomads that wander in tiny groups across the world, and the messengers that occasionally stop by. Once a week, the caravans come by, bringing goods. If the four need things, they have to write to the caravan and hope they bring the goods at the end of the week.
The Four Founders
Ame Totoro. A young man of twenty years. He was raised in the mountains as a part of a secretive and spiritual ninja Clan. But when his home was destroyed in a distaster, he found himself to be the only survivor. Leaving behind the destruction, he met Aeorlas Grey and through him the others, and he agreed to come to the new land. He keeps his past primarily to himself, and hates it when people pry.
Aeorlas Grey. An oft considered snobbish Night Elf, he was the heir to the Grey Clan and a very powerful, wealthy person. But when his father died, his mother remarried a coniving and evil individual who wanted all the power for himself. Using his money, the stepfather manipulated the courts and claimed his own son (Aeorlas' new half-brother) as the rightful heir, and Aeorlas was given nothing. Fearing his life, Aeorlas took what money he could carry and left. Enraged at this betrayal, he has resolved to build the True Grey Clan on his own. And what better place than this new land.
Finnegan Wake. A rather robust man from a long line of middle class. Though he was instructed in finance and the role of a merchant since a young age, he never really wanted to settle. The call of adventure was too strong to resist. He took many odd jobs as he traveled and adventured, but as time went by, he began to mellow, deciding that what he did want was a family. Hearing Aeorlas and Ame's plans, he felt he hit the jackpot: best of both worlds. He could have a family AND have his adventure as they braved a new land.
Balavendar Balendine. Probably the seediest of the four, he knows all sorts of tricks and trades to get by. Not to say he does not work honestly, just that he is not above stooping to lesser means to acheive his goals. He is a hard worker and believes achievement through merits is better than, say, being born into wealth and title. As a result, he and Aeorlas butt heads very often. He has come to this new land to get away from the trials of his life as a poor, street rat in an impoverished city.
Their Start
The caravan brought them to their spot of choice in the new land, leaving behind tools, food, and camping supplies. The Founders stayed on the plot for a year, learning their surroundings and crafting materials to build their houses with. They roughed it out all year, often going cold and hungry at times as they struggled to learn how to survive. But survive they did, and with their lumber mill producing all the materials they needed, the four finally parted ways to their own plots of land to begin building their own homes. They were sure to stay next to each other, that they could be at each others' beck and call if they needed help. After all, being on ones' own is dangerous indeed. Ame Totoro vouched to stay behind and take care of the lumber mill. He had grown fond of the area, and he did not mind staying. He and the others carted the lumber and materials to each others' new lots, helped each other build thier houses, then said their goodbyes.
